Robertinho Silva (1941) is a Brazilian drummer known for playing jazz. His first album was "Musica Popular Brasileira" in 1981.

He began his career with the band Som Imaginario with Zé Rodrix.

He has played with many famous musicians including João Donato, Marcos Valle, Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, Taiguara, Toninho Horta, Roberto Carlos, Gal Costa, João Bosco, Paulo Moura, Airto Moreira, Moacyr Santos, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter, Shelly Manne, Peggy Lee, Cal Tjader, Sarah Vaughan, George Duke, Flora Purim, Egberto Gismonti

In the early 1980’s Ramiro Musotto - Argentinean born musician , 1964 - moved to Brazil to pursue his dream to study percussion in Salvador da Bahia. . . . There he enthusiastically absorbed the presence of the deep African-Brazilian culture that helped him to shape his talent to his own desire. His style evolved with the inclusion of many Indian/Latin American and African impressions which he approached in an almost ethnic way. As someone who always wanted to stay on top of new sounds and rhythms, he started to experiment with electronics and samplers in order to find out how they mixed with traditional percussion. Leci Brandão da Silva (Rio de Janeiro, 1944) is a singer and composer of Brazilian Popular Music (Música Popular Brasileira or MPB). She is the daughter of Pérola Negra, one of the artists who pioneered in making the Brazilian pagode music popular throughout the land.

One of Leci Brandão's latest performances was in 2005 with Raça Brasileira: 20 Anos (DVD: 'Raca Brasileira', rated NR, one hour/2005) with many other Brazilian samba greats (i.e. Beth Carvalho, Arlindo Cruz, Almir Guineto, etc.).

Born in Rio de Janeiro 1967 : Pursuing an artistic career, Paulinho Moska studied theatre at the Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras in Rio. After a few jobs as an actor, he found his way back to music. . . . For Paulinho those early 90s were musically dominated by powerful rock bands like Nirvana, Lenny Kravitz and Pearl Jam. The influences of that preference are clearly noticeable on his debut album, the earlier mentioned Vontade. For music critics that album is enough reason to qualify Paulinho as a rock artist. That was not what he had in mind though. Paulinho started questioning his life as an artist. He joined a study group on the work of French theorist Gilles Deleuze, and that brought Paulinho in contact with philosophy and other art forms. Translated in music, this meant that his next album was a mixture of pop and MPB with lyrics reflecting his interest in existentialism. A few career steps later, the live album Através do Espelho (1997) added yet another new facet: the bonus track on that cd, the song "Mesmice," showed the first use of electronics in Paulinho's music. That approach grew and reached a climax on the album Mobile (1999). While touring to promote the cd, Moska, who stopped using his first name as an artist, democratically honoured the talent of his three accompanying musicians. The band was called Quarteto Móbile/Moska.

On this new album, Tudo Novo de Novo the quartet is featured again. And what a quartet that is! They matured in those few years and found the perfect balance, complementing each other's efforts. Marcos Suzano can be seen as one of Brazil's most melodic percussionists. He has the rare talent to choose the right percussion instrument to accomplish a natural interaction with the other instruments, whether those are acoustic or electric. . . . . Born in Rio de Janeiro to a family deeply rooted in the samba tradition, Paulinho met and befriended much of Rio's samba elite as a child. His father was a guitar player and musicians like Pixinguinha and Jacob do Bandolim would often come to his house for rehearsals, which Paulinho watched for hours on end....He began writing his own songs as a teenager, but never considered a career as a professional musician until he met poet Hermínio Bello de Carvalho in 1964. By then, Paulinho was working as a teller at a bank in Rio de Janeiro, and recognised Hermínio from the jam sessions at Jacob do Bandolim's house. The two became close friends and soon began writing music together. The first song they wrote together was Duvide-o-dó, recorded by singer Isaurinha Garcia. He then began performing his own songs at a restaurant in Rio, owned by samba legend Cartola and his wife.

He got his famous nickname in 1965, when he was a member of the samba group A Voz do Morro (the voice of the hills), alongside Zé Keti and Oscar Bigode. After their first recording session, a publicist from the record label reportedly told him "'Paulo César' is not a samba name!". Zé Keti and journalist Sérgio Cabral eventually came up with the nickname "Paulinho da Viola".

By the 1970s, Paulinho was at the most prolific stage of his career, releasing an average of one album per year. He was already a household name in samba, choro and MPB circles and broadened his audience by touring all over Brazil and also playing at festivals in Europe and the U.S.. His productivity and popularity had waned by the mid-80s, when he decided to focus more on his songwriting. In 1996 he regained notoriety after releasing the much-acclaimed album Bebadosamba, in which he once again joined forces with Hermínio Bello de Carvalho and Elton Medeiros, his early songwriting partners.

A 2003 documentary called “Meu Tempo é Hoje” (My Time is Now) depicted his personal and public lives, including his relationship with his native Rio de Janeiro and its samba community. “The film depicts, both with enthusiasm and restraint, the life of a true prince,” wrote Brazilian journalist and critic José Nêummane in a review.

He still lives in Rio de Janeiro and performs around Brazil. ( Wikipedia )

Zeep , a UK duo , Nina Miranda and Chris Franck were founding members of Smoke City and Da Lata.

They have collaborated with world-renowned artists such as Tony Allen, Baaba Maal, Ernest Ranglin, Sly and Robbie, Vieux Farka Touré, Nitin Sawhney, Jah Wobble, Femi Kuti, Bebel Gilberto and more. Their first album as Zeep came out in 2007 (on Far Out Records).

Nina Miranda is both a singer and songwriter who was part of the English group, Smoke City, and more recently, Shrift.

Nina Miranda's father is Brazilian visual artist Luiz Aquila, her mother is English and she was born in Brazil, and educated in Brazil, England and France. She wanted to be an opera singer when she was younger, and then studied art.

Vieux Farka Touré is Ali Farka Touré's son from Mali.
